I was reading HamptonRoads.com the other day when I saw this interesting article entitled, “Neighborhood Close Up: Jamestown Commons“. Jamestown Commons is an affordable active adult housing community comprised of 264 one, two and three bedroom garden-style apartment homes located at 1025 College Park Boulevard in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The apartment homes are situated in three, three-story buildings laid out in a crescent shape and offer views of the inner courtyard, two lakes with waterfall features and the gazebo and picnic areas. All buildings have secured access and elevators and all bathrooms are handicapped accessible with grab bars, phone jacks and pull cords.
Within the complex, there is a fitness center, crafts and computer rooms, meeting rooms and laundry. Residents enjoy tea parties, bingo, exercise classes, sing-alongs, movie nights and arts and crafts workshops throughout the month. Audra Hirst is the Jamestown Commons activities director and is in charge of taking residents to the mall, grocery store and social functions three times a week on the community van.
Property manager, Brian Staub said that this affordable apartment complex, which forms part of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit, is attractive to seniors, disabled individuals and those seeking a maintenance-free lifestyle. In order to qualify for ownership in Jamestown Commons, at least one resident must be 55 years or older and potential residents must qualify by income. Click to read this article in its entirety.
